Published October 1908 as The Roly-Poly Pudding this story was re-published in 1926 as The Tale of Samuel Whiskers, hence the double title here. Potter dedicated this story to Sammy. “The intelligent pink-eyed Representative of a Persecuted (but Irrepressible) Race. An affectionate little Friend, and most accomplished
thief” In view of Beatrix Potter’s evident affection for her rat “Sammy” this title seems more appropriate.
The story concerns Tom Kitten’s escape from two rats who plan to make him into a pudding.
